Date: 2004-01-15 03:50 pm (UTC)(As far as I'm concerned, it's got its own zip, it's written in specifically in addresses, it's treated as separate from Maryland, it's the capital of the country and not some island in the Pacific we annexed for God-knows-why - it's as close to a state as it needs to get. But I also work a lot with mail, so I have a slightly skewed perception of these things.
