Belated quasi-review
Jun. 9th, 2004 08:43 amOn Sunday, we went to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
I liked it. It wasn't a mimetic reproduction of the book, but neither were its predecessors (though Clapton knows Chris Columbus tried). It was darker than the earlier ones, but so was the book.
Roughly 90% of the essentials were there, and I suspect the missing bits (mostly backstory) will be on the DVD. I'm certainly willing to give Cuarón credit for them until I see that they're not there.
The only thing that gives me trepidation is that Cuarón has apparently convinced his successor, Mike Newell, that it's possible to fit Goblet of Fire into one movie. Anyone else who thinks that's doable, please let me know what you'd cut to make it happen. (Besides the scenes in Privet Drive I've already heard that that's getting the axe.)
