This day in Trinity Universe history
Feb. 1st, 2004 02:04 pmWow. I hardly need to do these posts, now that
etherlad has their main content running as
wolfspoor's "On a day like today..." sidebar. (I just wish I could give him more of the WoD dates he's hoped for.) Anyway, here's what that sidebar has to say about things that happened on this day in the Trinity Universe's past, so that I can say what I have to say about it. (With regard to events in the future, this LJ will take John Barnes' advice and wait for it to get here.)
I'm going to talk about several of Clean Sweep's subdevelopments on the anniversaries of the days they went into effect. Right now, I'm going to make a comment on the ethics of the whole thing.
Babylon 5's Vorlons hold that if you do the right thing for the wrong reasons, the work becomes corrupt. The Minbari, as devoted servants of theDoyen Vorlons, tend to take the same view. My good friend Chris Davies once had his version of Washû Hakubi opine:
For what it's worth, Operation Clean Sweep sounds like a worthy goal to me. If it's being carried out by Utopia, and thus probably being aided by Æon's clandestine eximorph experiments well, that's not their fault. At worst, Utopia are accessories after the fact to Æon's secret deeds. Hugh knows this. The good Utopia does for the world is one of the things that stop him leaving Æon.

[Aberrant] Project Utopia announces, before the UN General Assembly, its intention to perform a worldwide environmental cleanup. The world press applauds the news, and various countries use "Operation Clean Sweep" as a core to create civil works programs to help alleviate the massive unemployment that has plagued them since 1999.

All this bunkum about "the work becomes corrupt" is stuff people made up to make people want to be selfless and noble and decent, and to feel guilty about not being that way all the time. The universe looks at actions, not at motives.

Date: 2004-02-02 01:41 am (UTC)I'm not doing everything on WolfSpoor, after all (like the birthdate of some Republican candidate)... I'm focusing on the events which are, in my most humble of opinions, important (or potentially important) to the game line in question.
If that candidate had made it into office and done something noteworthy as it concerns novas or Æon, then I'd have posted it. I'm only doing 2-second "soundbites," basically.
Here, you can go on for as long as you like about a given event, what it means, and so on. That's valuable stuff. Just not what I'm doing. (:

That too. Thanks for the encouragement, man.
