aberrantangels: (Nova Age)
Posted today because I'm not definite about what time yesterday it all started, let alone how long it all took.

December 21
[Aberrant] Around four p.m. (PST?), Mike Dawson calls his original Sacred Circle contacts, Natasha Hawke and her boyfriend Jason, and asks if he can come over and "meld" with them to get away from his parents' "lack of insight" (and their desire that he come home to them for Christmas). He comes over, and the three "meld" and share food. Then Calliope mentally summons them into her Sanctuary, where Dawson is absorbed into Pierson ("becoming" in Calliopist terms).

In her later testimony, Hawke repeats the words Kelly Pierson spoke: "Michael has been very wise, and his soul is prepared. Since he is free of the nagging of the flesh at this time, I believe he is ready to Become." Then, Jason and Natasha "washed Mike's vessel — his body, I mean". He stepped up onto the daïs where Pierson was enthroned, "and then Calliope touched Mike and Mike's body flowed into her body and into another place and Mike was no longer of this place."

In her own testimony, Pierson tells how she took his hand

and in one bright moment of perfect love regained, his soul was rendered Immaculate and Gary Michael Dawson Became. [Witness is asked what she means by "Became".] His flesh touched my flesh and by my flesh was his soul made Immaculate. [Witness is asked if she ate Dawson.] No. He attained the state of the Immaculate Soul, and without the burden of sin, his Immaculate Soul was free to achieve higher awareness. He Became."

Her personality wins over the court in the end.

Almost the end.

2006
December 8 Mike Dawson writes what will prove to be his last letter home, in which he talks about his experiences at the Grand Circle. "I am now part of Calliope and Calliope is part of me. You can't know how lucky I am."

Before that, he says things like "I have stumbled upon a happiness that I could never have even guessed was possible" and "I'd never known true intimacy before." Afterward, he says "Calliope's soul is so strong in me now that I haven't had to sleep in days. I think I may have reached the next level." (This may imply that Calliope has the ability to share a taste of her power with baselines, making her [I just realized] another possible candidate to [have] become the most dangerous Aberrant of all.)

He tells his parents that he'll be staying with his Circle, and with Calliope, for Christmas. "You don't need to send any presents or anything. I am more than complete as it is. Enjoy your holidays. Tell Sarah [probably his sister] I love her."

I've been slacking hellaciously, I know.

November 5
[Aberrant] A Québecois separatist group using the name of the Front de Liberation de Québec claims responsibility for recent terrorist strikes in Ottawa and Toronto. Given the nature of the strikes, Canadian authorities fear the group may be employing an elite.

I have little or nothing to add to this.

Mike Dawson sends a letter home talking about his recent Calliopist retreat, in which he participated in a "Sacred Circle".

He wants to tell his parents about what happened between himself, the other five Calliopists who make up his Circle, and Calliope, "but there's no way that you could possibly understand how it feels to share complete and utter trust with others in the way we do now." He didn't come home for Thanksgiving break as he'd once planned to; instead, he's gone to the "Grand Circle", a gathering of Sacred Circles to come "closer to Perfect Understanding and the Immaculate Soul."

Continued from last time.

Aberrant
Mike Dawson sends a letter to his parents in which he gushes about Natasha and Jason and their nova friend Calliope, "one of the most amazing people I've ever met!"

Amazing. That's one way to put it, yes.

Another beginning.

September 30
[Aberrant] Gary Michael "Mike" Dawson sends his first letter home from college, mentioning that he's met "some really cool people" who know an actual nova.

The actual nova in question being Kelly "Calliope" Pierson.

[Edited 2:41 PM to correct the link I was going to add but didn't. *^_^*]

Out on the horizon
I see a puff of smoke
Indians on the warpath
White man speaking with forked tongue, isn't it?
Pardon that?

2004
[Aberrant] California Law Enforcement Bulletin includes a cult update mentioning nova-centric cults such as the followers of Bhagwan Sri Mahananda and the "Sacred Circles" of Kelly "Calliope" Pierson.

That's one aspect of novahood that Aberrant covered better than most previous, and probably some subsequent, superhero milieux — what they call "Mega-Social" powers. In fact, the only previous treatments of inhuman persuasive ability that I can readily think of were Zebadiah Killgrave, Marvel's "Purple Man" (a villain), and David Harstein, "the Envoy" of the Wild Cards world's "Four Aces" (a hero who had to go into hiding).

One of the Aberrant supplements I was looking forward to was Aberrant: Cult of Personality, which was supposed to be an in-depth discussion of the game effects of Mega-Social attributes and enhancements, with worked examples of their effect on the Nova Age. (Aberrant: Brainwaves, available as an unofficial e-book here, did the same for Mega-Mental powers, and Aberrant: Brute Force would have covered the Mega-Physical.)
