aberrantangelsWar is hell.
This successor to Craiglockhart War Hospital isn't located in the original building, which is presumably being put to the same use in the TU as in OTL, but on the island of New Guinea, discreetly out of the public eye. The British government established it in 2005, when it became clear that nova PTSD raised a new set of issues.
Calamity (powers: flight, force shielding, heat projection) was admitted for testing and rehab after the "Field of Glass" incident in Tanzania last August. He'd been sent by the US government to take out an "enemy" outpost which they thought was guarded by a rival elite, possibly the dreaded Totentanz himself. There wasn't an elite, just a bunch of child soldiers, but Carmel didn't know that when he unleashed his "Calamity Blast".
There was hardly even a fort, just rickety wood and metal surrounded by sandbags. The building melted, the sandbags burst and their contents fused into glass — glass which, while still molten, flowed all over those charging kids, killing 143. Killing them in ways Callahan will probably dream about, and wake about, for the rest of his life.
