Playing catch-up again. (I sometimes think I should've just backdated the whole journal to 1998.) This is the last event until March that isn't part of future tension.

[Aberrant] The Namibian government announces the role of DeVries' two novas in quelling the recent riots and grants the agency permission to set up its base around DeBeers mines in the eastern highlands.

From such beginnings do major corporations spring. Not to mention trademarks that become generic, like Elite™. (In fact, a lot of this is paraphrased from Aberrant: Elites.)

DeBeers had hired Anna DeVries and her colleague rather than go to Team Tomorrow and open themselves to prying Utopian eyes. She'd been hoping somebody would require her services, because although she had one base already (the old Executive Actions compound outside Pretoria, complete with an air force suitable for a small Balkan nation) and a staff of ex-military (who probably recognized her father's name), she knew she was going to need operating capital.

So now she had the money and the additional facilities. Now she needed additional novas. For that, she started networking with connections at the London Rashoud facility, and began a media blitz billing the DeVries Agency as "by novas, for novas."

The rest is hysteria.
