Again, I can't seem to find the original of this in the place I was looking (my copy of Aberrant: The Directive). I did, however, find Directive Pile PI 098, on Project Utopia, which includes the inside information on Æon available to Petr Ilyanovich. He notes that Æon came forward "suspiciously quickly" after N-Day to offer help to the world's governments.
He also notes something that may or may not be relevant: "Lawrence Quinn Jr., who helped prepare the preliminary draft of the Zurich Accord seemingly overnight, had a connection to the society as well." Quinn was living off his grandfather's lucrative estate, and David Stephenson, executor thereof, had previously managed the estate of Dr. Richard Mercer,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
max_a_mercer's father, from which the younger Mercer got the money to found Æon. Stephenson had in fact gone into retirement after handling the Mercer estate and come out of it specifically to handle the Quinn matter. No real conclusions are drawable, to be sure, but it sure sounds like one of those things that make you go "hmmm...", doesn't it?

[Aberrant] Vasili Klymenko of the Directive sends an encrypted private letter to his old friend Alexis Vadivich, talking about his organization's objectives and inviting Vadivich to become part of them. "If [Æon] are only high-minded fools, shattering their plans will be easy....If there is more going on, then our work is even more necessary."
