You know the drill. This time, [livejournal.com profile] ezrael is the one asking the questions.

1) What's your opinion on the whole Pauline/James the Brother of Jesus split in early Christianity? Was Paul a sincere convert who simply saw Christ differently, or an opportunistic huckster?

Sincere convert, possibly receiving messages from multiple entities trying to confuse the issue. Also, like many a prophet before and since, had trouble distinguishing between the revelations meant for him personally and the ones that were intended as restatements of general commands.

2) Ever play Empire of the Petal Throne?

No, but from what I've heard about Tekumel, it sounds damn cool.

3) Assuming you were about to be killed, and you could choose the method, what's your favorite and least favorite ways to die?

Jeez, and I thought [livejournal.com profile] thessalian's question about whether I'd rather lose my sight or my hearing was a piss-cutter. (She asks that of everyone, apparently, not just [livejournal.com profile] kixie.)

Preferred (I won't say "favorite"): decapitation. Quick and irrevocable. You may live long enough to wish someone could do something about it, but you know they can't at the current state of our knowledge.

Least preferred: probably drawing and quartering. We've owned Braveheart on VHS and DVD, but I haven't been able to watch it all the way through since it was in the cinema.

4) Theist, Atheist, or other?

Agnostick [sic] Chaos ptheist [sicer], with a personal pantheon of names for the gods I suspect are behind all other masks worldwide. Judging by the world we live in, my picture of the kind of deity it would take to perpetrate such a place is a triune with elements of the Christian Trinity, the Hindu Trimurti, and White Wolf's Triat. The creative aspect (Brahma, the Wyld) I call Sable and envisage as the feminine principle. (I suspect that she's the same entity the Discordians call Eris, and I realized while writing this that my mental picture of her looks a lot like God as played by Alanis Morrisette at the end of Dogma.) The principle of order (Vishnu, the Weaver) I call Argent, and I loosely identify him with Yahweh (by way of Jehovah-1 from SubGenius mythology), and also with our old pal Ahura Mazda/Ormuzd. The destructive principle (Shiva, the Wyrm) I call Grau (and yes, I did mean that to recall Greyface from the Principia Discordia); it's Angra Mainyu/Ahriman without the active malevolence. (Discworld's "Auditors of Reality" work for it.) I've also given names to six lesser masks of the Godhead, named for heraldic colors and representing a blend of Eastern and Western elements and the symbolic meanings thereof.

5) In your opinion, and in the light of Colin Powell's admission that there may not have been any WMD's in Iraq at all, do the majority of the American people actually care, and did they ever care?

I'm not sure they really cared. Certainly they don't care now, or if they do it's been swamped by their sense of (to paraphrase P.J. O'Rourke) "So a politician lied to us. What the hell else does a politician ever do?" Otherwise the entire adsinistration (with the possible exception of Powell) would already be decorating the lamp-posts of the District.

EDIT 4:19 PM: For future reference, leave interview requests in this post's comments from now on.

You know, you should consider Blake's Urizen, Orc and Los for your trinitarian construction. They work very well for it.

Your questions:
1. "What the fuck is it with you and politics, mang?" (hoo ha!) Seriously, you seem to be pretty far-left. Whasupwitdat?
2. What works of fiction (poetry included, as well as plays) do you feel are required reading?
3. Same question, but with nonfiction.
4. You've got a chance to permanently ex-pat to any locale of your choice and live comfortably for the rest of your days, at least until CIA assassins storm your beachside (or maybe mountaintop) villa to open a can. Where do you go and why?
5. What's the second most shameful thing to happen to the 20th century? I think most people would say HOlocaust first, hence the "second most."

The answer to my #2 question was that I don't have a favorite game. I just forgot to write that.
